A Heart for the Homeless

John replied, "If you have two shirts, give one to the poor. If you have food, share it with those who are hungry."  Luke 3:11

The concept is a simple one...to bring human interaction and comfort to people who every day are ignored, vilified, scapegoated and stepped over. The Midnight Run, a nonprofit organization based in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., has been serving the homeless in Manhattan for many years.

The Reformed Church of the Tarrytowns has been taking part since 2010. Twice a year, volunteers at our church gather and sort donations of seasonal clothing and toilet articles for a midnight run to Manhattan. On the designated nights, Pastor Jeff and a team of youth and adult members of the congregation load up the Midnight Run van and drive into Manhattan to pre-arranged stops, where they hand out the donated clothing and toiletries, along with sandwiches prepared by other volunteers.

Thanksgiving Service

The annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Service will be held this year at Temple Beth Abraham at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 21.
